M8 Lag On Messages App After Lollipop Update
ProblemGood morning, I have an HTC M8 phone, which automatically updated while I was sleeping to the Lollipop OS a few evenings ago. My carrier is AT&T.  I am having huge issues with the messages app.  I open it and click to open a text and the little wheel spins for a long while.  I don’t know the exact number of seconds, but if I click a text and set the phone down, the screen will turn off before the text loads.  When typing using the swype app, there is a large amount of lag or freezing.  Group texts are even worse. I read your Messages App comments of slowness and lag for the native texting app and cleared the cache as you instructed.  I also reset the phone entirely to hard clear the cache of the phone itself to see if that helped.  I’ve seen zero change in the responsiveness of the phone as it relates to messaging. I tried downloading a different texting app, thinking perhaps it was an issue with the messages app, but that’s slow as well.  It seems that the new OS really struggles to read and interpret texts from an iphone, worse even than previous iterations. I appreciate any thoughts or advice on options.
Solution: If a factory reset fails to resolve the issue then this may be a problem with the update itself. The best thing to do right now is to try to use a messaging app that does not lag (have you tried using Hangouts?). If all of the messaging apps you tried still lags then you may have to wait for the next software update to be released for this issue to be resolved.
M8 Water Damaged
ProblemGreetings, I screwed up and took my HTC into hot tub.  Less than 5 minutes but it went into constant vibration mode till drained.  It was at this time I learned you cannot remove battery.  Left in paper bag with rice for weeks.  It appears to recognize battery charger but won’t charge or start.  Are these worth repair?
Solution: The problem with a water damaged phone is that you can’t tell the extent of the damage until it is inspected properly. This means that you will have to bring it to an authorized service center, have it opened and checked. Try to get quote as to how much it is going to cost you to repair your phone. If the amount is near the price of getting a new phone then I suggest you get a new phone.
M8 Icons / Color Changed
ProblemI own an HTC m8 and something happened that made the icons on my phone all change. The phones is colorful instead of the normal color it was, and all my apps look like my phone is a children’s phone. Do u know what I’m referring too? It might have been an update but everything changed. My mailbox is purple with dots on it and my settings icon is a triangle with circles on its points. How do I turn my icons and screen back to how it was? Thank You
Solution: You may have switched your phone to Easy Mode. This makes your phone use a simplified launcher that allows only the essentials to be displayed on the screen. You know your phone is set to Easy Mode by the three colors on the display that can’t be changed. Green is the center page which is flanked by the Blue and Orange pages.
You can get out of Easy Mode by going to Settings > Personalize > Home screen.
M8 Music Playback Issues
ProblemMy first one had an issue with the headphones when riding my motorcycle, it would randomly pause or stop the music or it would keep skipping songs. The screen on that one cracked and I got a brand new replacement from HTC. Right out of the box it did the same exact thing….and it continues to do the same. It’s there a fix for this? Or should I just invest in some wireless Bluetooth earbuds? Thanks.
Solution: Does this issue only occur when you are riding on your motorcycle? If it does then maybe the music controls are accidentally being pressed.
If your phone has a cover or protective case then try taking it out first and observe if the issue occurs.
To verify if this issue is caused by the music app you should clear its cache and data. You will lose your music settings when you do this so expect to set it up again.
  • From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Scroll to ‘PHONE,’ then tap Apps.
  • Scroll left to the ALL tab.
  • Tap the Music application.
  • Tap Clear Cache.
  • Tap OK.
  • Tap Clear Data.
You should also try to download a third party music app and see if the issue still occurs while using it.
If the music still skips, pauses, or stops then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Down key.
  • Press and release the Power key to turn the phone on.
  • Continue holding the Volume Down.
  • Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen.
  • Press the Volume Down key once to move the cursor from FASTBOOT to RECOVERY.
  • Press the Power key to begin the wipe.
  • The device displays the bootup screen followed by a phone with a red triangle.
  • Press the Up Volume key and Power key at the same time.
  • Press the Down Volume key three times to select Wipe cache partition.
  • Press the Power key to initiate the wipe.
  • Wait until the phone displays Cache wipe complete.
  • Press the Power key to select Reboot system now.
If the issue persists then back up your phone data then do a factory reset.
  • Press and hold the Power button
  • Tap Power off.
  • Press and hold the Volume Down key.
  • Press and release the Power key to turn the phone on.
  • Continue holding the Volume Down key.
  • Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen.
  • Press the Volume Down key twice to move the cursor from FASTBOOT to FACTORY RESET.
  • Press the Power key to perform the master reset.
M8 Setting Notification For Calls Only
ProblemHello. Just wondering is there a way to turn everything off except phone calls. I.e so when you go to bed you can basically turn off all notifications but if someone calls it will still ring. Like a do not disturb but phone calls can still get through? But texts emails whatssapp vibers etc can’t? Thanks
Solution: You should consider turning off the data of your phone at night. This way you won’t get any notifications from your apps that need online access (this includes WhatsApp, Viber, Facebook , emails, etc.).
Now the only thing you have to worry about is text messages. You can change your default text message notification to silent at night so that you won’t be able to hear any new text messages arriving.
Just remember to set everything back the way to its original settings when you wake up in the morning.
M8 Google Play Services Has Stopped Error
ProblemHi, My HTC One M8 has an error message appear saying that the Google play services have stopped working and is asking me to send an error report. I’ve done this yet the message keeps appearing every minute or so asking me to do the exact same thing again. It’s been happening for a day now and is basically making my phone unusable! Please Help! Thanks
Solution:  Sending a report will not fix this issue as it will only send out data to the developer of the app (in this case Google) regarding the issue.
The first thing to do in this situation is to make sure that your Google Play Store app is running on the latest update. Just open the Google Play Store then click on the My Apps section. You will get a notification of any app that needs to be updated. If the Play Store is one of them then proceed with the update.
If the app is already updated and the issue still persists then the next thing to do is to clear the cache and data of the Google Play Store app.
  • From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Scroll to ‘PHONE,’ then tap Apps.
  • Scroll left to the ALL tab.
  • Tap the Google Play Store application.
  • Tap Clear Cache.
  • Tap OK.
  • Tap Clear Data.
There are also instances when the latest update is causing the error to occur. To check if this is the case try to uninstall the update of the Google Play Store.
  • From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Scroll to ‘PHONE,’ then tap Apps.
  • Scroll left to the ALL tab.
  • Tap the Google Play Store application.
  • Tap Uninstall updates.
Observe if the issue still occurs. If it doesn’t then don’t update the app as of now. Just wait for the next update to arrive which hopefully will resolve the issue.
Finally, if all else fails then do a quick restart. Turn off your phone then turn it on after a few minutes. This refreshes your phone software and hopefully will eliminate the issue.
M8 Keeps Making Noise
ProblemHi, I have a HTC one M8 and all of a sudden today it’s just making a noise non stop, like as if I’m getting a message over and over again Iv restarted my phone and everything but as soon as it’s back on and I unlock it again it starts, even when I put on vibrate it vibrates non stop! Please help I can’t have my phone on silent forever!
Solution: Start your phone in Safe Mode to check if this issue is caused by a third party app installed in your phone.
  • Press and hold the Power key.
  • On the screen, touch and hold Power off under Phone Options.
  • When the ‘Reboot to safe mode’ message appears, tap RESTART.
  • When the phone restarts it will be in safe mode.
If the noise or vibration disappears then the issue is most likely caused by an app installed in your phone. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If the problem still occurs even in Safe Mode then back up your phone data and do a factory reset.
The issue will be resolved by now if it is software related. If it still persists then this may already be a hardware related problem. Bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
M8 Blurry Camera Photos
ProblemHi, I hope it’s ok to email you and hoping you can help. I own an HTC One M8 and in the last few weeks or so my camera has started taking really foggy/cloudy pictures. Do you know if this is a common problem, is there any way to fix this? I’ve tried cleaning the lens but that doesn’t seem to help at all. Thanks so much in advance for your help and have a good weekend.
Solution: Make sure that your phone does not have a cover or protective case as this may affect the quality of your photos. Carefully inspect the camera lens for any smudges or oil. Clean it using a microfiber cloth or a plain newspaper.
If the lens is clear but the photos are still blurry then try to clear the cache and data of the camera app.
  • From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Scroll to ‘PHONE,’ then tap Apps.
  • Scroll left to the ALL tab.
  • Tap the Camera application.
  • Tap Clear Cache.
  • Tap OK.
  • Tap Clear Data.
If the issue persists then back up your phone data and do a factory reset.
If the photos are still blurry then this may be a camera sensor related problem. Bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
M8 Can’t Turn Off Auto-Rotate
ProblemHi, my 2 month old HTC One m8 started behaving weirdly of late. It rotates the screen (even upside down) including the lock screen and app drawer when auto rotate is turned off, automatically  goes into speaker mode when receiving a call which is extremely annoying, randomly keeps refreshing web pages, including the settings apps and sometimes crashing apps, the screen also keeps  waking randomly for no reason at all. I have tried rebooting to safe mode, clearing cache data, a factory reset(which worked last week) but now the problems are back even after a second factory reset and no new apps installed. I’m currently running 5.0.1 lollipop. What could be the problem?
Solution: If the factory reset fails to resolve the issue then the screen rotation issue may be caused by a faulty hardware, possible related to your phone sensor. Bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
M8 Not Reading 128GB MicroSD
ProblemHello Driod Guy, I have an HTC M8 from At&t I purchased an Scandisk 128GB and for some reason it won’t read all the time. It will read at certain times and then other times it won’t read at all. Does this mean I have a fake Scandisk GB 128? Cause it doesn’t read all the time on my Asus Tablet either. If I Root my phone will this allow the SD Card to work? Please Please HELP!!
Solution: Try to format the microSD using your laptop ( choose NTFS partition). Make sure to back up the data in the microSD before formatting it. If the issue still persist even after formatting the card then the card itself may be defective. Try to get a new one and check if the problem still occurs.
M8 No Sound On Music / Videos
ProblemHello i was wondering if i could get some help with my phone. So awhile ago i dropped my phone into a bit of water not to much but i had my case on and dried it off right away it looked fine but when i tried to play music or a video no sound at all. The volume is all the way up as well. But i can hear like ringtones from a call, message, alarm, notification etc. Everything but music and videos. Help please?
Solution: Try to check first if this is a software related issue by backing up your phone data and doing a factory reset.
If the problem still persists then the issue may be caused by water damage. Bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
M8 com.android.settings Error
ProblemHey, I have a HTC ONE M8 great phone but has one issue, recently it started giving me the error message saying com.android.settings unexpectedly stopped working. May I ask why is this happening and how can I fix it.
Solution: This issue is caused by either a corrupt software or corrupt data in your phone. Try to clear the cache and data of your phone app and see if the issue gets resolved.
  • From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Scroll to ‘PHONE,’ then tap Apps.
  • Scroll left to the ALL tab.
  • Tap the Phone application.
  • Tap Clear Cache.
  • Tap OK.
  • Tap Clear Data.
If the issue persists then do the same procedure for the SIM Toolkit app.
As a last resort you should back up your phone data and do a factory reset.
